The next election for the TIMUD Board of Directors will take place on May 4, 2024 at Surfside Beach City Hall, 1304 Monument Dr. Surfside Beach, Texas.

The deadline for filing the application for a place on the ballot has passed.

Voter Registration Information

To Vote in the Treasure Island MUD election you must be registered to vote in Brazoria County at least 30 days before the election date. To change your name or address, a completed and signed application is also required at least 30 days before the election date. Only your voter registration has to be changed.

Eligibility for Voter Registration:

 To be eligible for registration as a voter in this state, a person must:

  • be 18 years of age* or older;
  • be a United States citizen;
  • not have been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be:
  • totally mentally incapacitated; or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;
  • not have been finally convicted of a felony or, if so convicted, must have:fully discharged the person’s sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote; and
  • be a resident of the county in which application for registration is made

Order of General Election

The deadline for filing the application for a place on the ballot is 78 days prior to the election. For the May 4, 2024 director election, the first day to file an application for a place on the ballot is January 17, 2024.  The deadline for filing the application for a place on the ballot will be Friday, February 16, 2024. The deadline for write-in candidates is 74 days before the election. For the May 4, 2024 director election, the deadline for write-in candidates is Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Completed applications for a place on the ballot may be filed in person or by mail to the TIMUD office at 146 Fathom, Freeport, TX 77541. To be qualified to serve as a director of a municipal utility district, Section 54.102 of the Texas Water Code requires that a person be the following: 

  1. (1) be a United States citizen;
    (2) be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable;
    (3) have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be:
         (A) totally mentally incapacitated; or
         (B) partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;
    (4) have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
    (5) be a resident citizen of the State of Texas, and either own land subject to taxation in the District or be a qualified voter within the District.

In addition, Section 49.052 of the Texas Water Code provides for certain disqualifications for directors. Those include persons related to a developer of property in the district, any other member of the board, or the manager, engineer, attorney or other person providing professional services to the district. Also, a director cannot be an employee of any developer of property in the district or any director, manager, engineer, attorney or other person providing professional services to the district or a developer of property in the district in connection with the district or property located in the district. A director also cannot be a developer of property in the district or serve as attorney, consultant, engineer, manager, architect or in some other professional capacity for the district or a developer of property in the district in connection with the district or property located in the district. A director is also disqualified if he or she is a party to a contract with or along with the district except for the purchase of public services furnished by the district to the public generally. Finally, a director is disqualified if he or she is a party to a contract with or along with a developer of property in the district relating to the district or to property within the district, other than a contract limited solely to the purpose of purchasing or conveying real property in the district for the purpose of either establishing a permanent residence, establishing a commercial business within the district, or qualifying as a director.
